Julian Murphy
Company Director
Julian graduated from Cambridge and worked as a director in theatre before moving into television as a script editor for Yorkshire TV and Central. He edited a number of hit shows including Boon, Inspector Morse and Peak Practice before joining the BBC as Executive Producer working on a number of programs, including the award-winning Preston Front, Dalziel & Pascoe, and Dangerfield. He later went on to produce the first series of The Scarlet Pimpernel (BBC) and the first two series of As If (C4).
In 2002 he and Johnny set up the drama department of Elizabeth Murdoch’s new production company, Shine. There they created and produced many international hits including the International Emmy Award-winning Sugar Rush (Channel 4), Synchronicity (BBC) and the multi-award winning Merlin (BBC1).
Julian was co-creator and Executive Producer of the Urban Myth Film’s first commission the 13-part action adventure series Atlantis for BBC1 and BBC America.
Since establishing Urban Myth Films, Johnny and Julian have executive produced a huge number of international hits including A Confession (ITV), Crazyhead (Channel 4), The One (Netflix), War of the Worlds (Fox, Canal+) and BAFTA award-winning series The Lazarus Project (Sky).
Their most recent series is the blockbuster action series Paris Has Fallen, an exciting new series based on the Has Fallen film franchise.
